Integrity Education Solutions are supporting an independent day special school in London, to appoint an experienced and ambitious SENCo ahead of its planned opening in January 2027 or sooner if available.
This is an exciting opportunity for a specialist education professional to play a key role in establishing the SEND systems, culture and educational practice of a new school supporting pupils aged 8–16 years.
With a planned capacity of just 20 pupils across four small classes, the school will offer a calm, nurturing and ambitious environment where pupils are known and supported as individuals, with a strong focus on communication, confidence, independence and preparation for adulthood.
The Role
Reporting directly to the Headteacher, the successful candidate will lead the school's SEND provision, EHCP coordination, provision mapping and multi-agency working, while remaining closely connected to classroom practice. The role also carries wider whole-school responsibilities across safeguarding, attendance, teaching and learning quality assurance and staff leadership.
Key Responsibilities:
-
Lead the school's SEND provision, systems, documentation and provision mapping, ensuring EHCP outcomes translate into effective classroom provision.
-
Coordinate EHCP Annual Reviews, assessment information and high-quality contributions from families and multi-agency professionals.
-
Support and coach staff in adaptive teaching, communication, regulation and effective deployment of support staff.
-
Build strong relationships with Local Authorities, social care, health professionals, therapists and families.
-
Act as Designated Safeguarding Officer within the school's agreed safeguarding structure, supporting effective safeguarding systems, records and referrals.
-
Monitor attendance, identify emerging patterns of concern and coordinate appropriate support and escalation.
-
Lead teaching and learning quality assurance through learning walks, observations, work scrutiny, assessment and pupil voice.
-
Provide developmental feedback and coaching to staff, using evidence to drive improvements in classroom practice and pupil outcomes.
-
Line manage agreed areas of the school and contribute to school improvement, self-evaluation, professional development and inspection readiness.
The Ideal Candidate
The successful candidate will be an experienced teacher and SEND professional with a strong understanding of EHCP processes, SEND assessment and provision planning, alongside the ability to lead adults and systems effectively.
Applicants should ideally have:
-
QTS|QTLS and successful teaching experience.
-
Strong knowledge of EHCP processes, SEND assessment, provision planning and review.
-
Experience supporting pupils with complex SEND.
-
Strong safeguarding knowledge and professional judgement.
-
Experience working with families and multi-agency professionals.
-
The ability to analyse attendance, identify concerns and coordinate appropriate support.
-
Experience of, or readiness to lead, teaching and learning quality assurance.
-
The ability to line manage colleagues, provide constructive feedback and hold others to account supportively.
-
SENCo NPQ, valid NASENCo or equivalent legacy qualification is strongly preferred. Experience within a special school, independent special school or Alternative Provision would be desirable.
Why Apply?
This is a rare opportunity to join a new specialist school at the development stage and have genuine influence over its SEND systems, curriculum practice, culture and wider provision.
With small classes, a strong focus on safeguarding and professional development, and close collaboration with families and external professionals, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to help shape how the school operates from the outset.
Salary: £56,000 – £65,000 per annum, depending on qualification and leadership experience
