Handyman
Up to £35,000 | South & London | Some UK Travel
We’re looking for a practical, hands-on person to join a busy refrigeration business in a varied support role working alongside experienced Refrigeration Engineers.
This isn’t a Refrigeration Engineer position and you don’t need to be refrigeration qualified. Instead, we’re looking for someone who is physically fit, practical, reliable and happy to get stuck into whatever needs doing.
You’ll spend much of your time travelling to customer sites across the South and into London, supporting engineers and carrying out a wide variety of practical tasks.
What will you be doing? No two days will be exactly the same, but duties could include:
Assisting Refrigeration Engineers on customer sites
Helping move, position and handle refrigeration equipment
Replacing door seals, handles and other basic components
Collecting and delivering parts and materials
Carrying out straightforward repairs and maintenance tasks
Preparing areas and equipment ready for engineers
Attending sites independently to deal with smaller jobs
Providing general hands-on support wherever required
Working both independently and as part of an engineering team This is a role for someone who enjoys being out and about rather than sitting behind a desk and who is genuinely happy to turn their hand to different jobs.
What are we looking for? You don’t need a particular engineering qualification. Attitude and reliability are much more important.
We’re looking for someone who:
Is practical, hands-on and comfortable using basic tools
Is physically fit and happy helping move equipment
Has a strong work ethic and a genuine “get stuck in” attitude
Can be trusted to work independently when required
Communicates well with engineers, customers and colleagues
Is reliable and looking for a stable, long-term position
Is happy with regular travel throughout the South and London
Is prepared to travel further afield occasionally when required
Is comfortable with the very occasional overnight stay Overnight stays are not expected to be a regular part of the role — potentially only once every few months — but flexibility is important when a job requires it. Accommodation and appropriate expenses will, of course, be covered.
Previous experience in a handyman, maintenance, facilities, installation, construction, engineering support, workshop or similar practical environment would be useful, but we’re equally interested in someone at an earlier stage of their career who has the right attitude.
A full UK driving licence will be required due to the travelling nature of the role.
What’s on offer?
Salary up to £35,000
Varied, hands-on work
Opportunity to work alongside experienced Refrigeration Engineers
Plenty of independence once established
Travel across a range of customer sites
Long-term opportunity within an established engineering environment Immediate availability would be advantageous, although this isn’t essential.
If you’re practical, reliable, physically fit and looking for a varied role where you can get out on the road and become a valued part of an engineering team, we’d be keen to hear from you.
