Search recruitment are currently recruiting a microbiologist based on site in Liverpool. This role is working in the Quality Services team, working in a QC laboratory that supports a medical nutrition manufacturing environment and interacts closely with production, supply chain, engineers and external laboratories. This is a temporary ongoing position but could become permanent for the right person.
What you'll focus on
- Maintaining RFT and OTIF performance within your lab area.
- Developing your technical capability through structured training and competency assessments.
- Supporting improvements to lab systems, processes and methods.
- Contributing to the implementation of new methodologies that enable testing of additional products in house.
Key responsibilities
- Perform routine microbiological and analytical testing in line with SOPs, GMP and GLP, and complete required training and competency assessments.
- Maintain day‑to‑day laboratory standards and rotas, oversee assigned equipment and methods, and manage consumable ordering and receipt.
- Check and verify data to ensure accurate reporting, and initiate and support Out of Specification procedures when needed.
- Implement assigned corrective actions and contribute to lab process improvement projects aligned with quality KPIs.
- Assist in the introduction and validation of new methods and equipment, and update SOPs and documentation when processes change.
- Follow Health and Safety standards at all times while supporting the wider quality ambition across the manufacturing site.
What we're looking for
- BSc in Microbiology, Chemistry or a science‑based discipline.
- Fluent English, spoken and written.
- Relevant academic background and/or experience in a pharma or FMCG environment.
- Familiarity with physical processing of food ingredients, particularly dry powders.
- Ability to handle multiple priorities in a pressurised, highly measured setting.
- Strong analytical, technical and problem‑solving skills, with confident communication and presentation skills.
- Collaborative, adaptable approach with willingness to share ideas and work across functions and external partners.
- Nice to have: experience of LIMS systems.
