As our new Deputy Head – English & Maths, you will play a key role in leading high-quality provision across two of the most important curriculum areas in further education. You will help learners from diverse backgrounds develop the skills, confidence, and qualifications they need to progress into further study, employment, and successful adult lives.
Working closely with the Head of Faculty, you will provide strong curriculum leadership, support colleagues to achieve excellence in teaching and learning, and contribute to a culture where high expectations, inclusion and continuous improvement are at the heart of everything we do.

What You’ll Do
As Deputy Head – English & Maths, you will:
Support the strategic leadership and operational management of English and Maths provision across the College.
Work closely with the Head of Faculty to develop a high-performing, inclusive and ambitious curriculum.
Drive excellence in teaching, learning, and assessment, ensuring learners receive an outstanding educational experience.
Lead and support curriculum planning, development, and innovation, responding effectively to learner, employer, and sector needs.
Monitor learner performance, attendance, retention and achievement, identifying trends and implementing effective interventions.
Support colleagues through coaching, mentoring, professional development, and performance management.
Promote consistent and effective approaches to GCSE and Functional Skills delivery.
Contribute to quality assurance, self-assessment, and improvement planning, ensuring a strong focus on learner outcomes.
Champion high expectations, inclusion, and positive learner behaviour across English and Maths provision.
Work collaboratively with curriculum areas, student support teams, and wider college services to remove barriers to learning.
Build effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders to strengthen curriculum delivery and progression opportunities.
Contribute to inspection readiness and the College’s wider quality improvement priorities.
Deputise for the Head of Faculty when required, providing confident and effective curriculum leadership.
What You’ll Bring
We are looking for an inspirational and committed educator who is ready to make the transition into, or further develop their experience within, curriculum leadership.
You will bring:
A recognised teaching qualification at Level 4 or above.
Significant teaching experience in English, Maths, or a closely related curriculum area.
Experience of curriculum leadership, subject leadership or departmental coordination within Further Education or a similar educational setting.
A strong understanding of GCSE and Functional Skills provision and the challenges and opportunities within English and Maths education.
Experience of using data, quality assurance, and performance information to drive improvement.
A clear understanding of effective teaching, learning, and assessment within an FE environment.
Strong organisational and communication skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities effectively.
The ability to coach, motivate and inspire colleagues and build positive professional relationships.
A commitment to inclusive education and improving outcomes for learners from all backgrounds.
The ambition, resilience, and vision to help develop outstanding English and Maths provision.
