Prospero Teaching is recruiting a SEN Learning Support Assistant in Hemel Hempstead to help pupils with learning and communication needs access their school day. You will support learning, social interaction and increasing independence, working from individual plans agreed with teaching staff. This role would suit someone who can adapt activities patiently and communicate clearly with pupils and colleagues.
Your responsibilities
Support individual pupils and small groups with practical, appropriately paced learning.
Use visual resources and agreed communication approaches to help pupils make choices.
Reinforce speech and language activities under the direction of teaching staff.
Help pupils manage transitions and take part in social and independence activities.
Record engagement and progress, sharing useful observations with the wider team.
What you will need
Experience as a teaching assistant, learning support assistant or in relevant SEND support.
Understanding of autism, learning difficulties or speech, language and communication needs.
A patient approach and willingness to follow individual care and learning plans.Makaton, PECS or augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) experience would be useful. Any personal care or physical support duties will be explained before placement and require appropriate training.
