We are looking for a calm, patient, empathetic and reliable Personal Assistant to provide one-to-one support to a young adult male with severe learning disabilities.
This is a rewarding role for someone who genuinely enjoys supporting others and is confident in providing patient, respectful and engaging care.
Support will be provided primarily within the family home, alongside regular outings and activities within the local community and across the London area and beyond.
The person you will be supporting is full of personality and enjoys getting out and about, experiencing different activities and adventures. A willingness to actively engage with and encourage these interests is therefore an important part of the role.
The role
Following a period of shadowing and appropriate training, your responsibilities will include:

Providing support with meals, including physical assistance and close supervision.

Providing wheelchair assistance when out in the community.

Assisting with personal care.

Offering reassurance and calm support during periods of anxiety or distress.

Using appropriate diversion and de-escalation techniques with patience and understanding.

Encouraging participation in activities and interests they enjoy.

Maintaining awareness of safety and providing appropriate monitoring and supervision.

Supporting a positive, respectful and enjoyable environment both at home and within the community.

3/4 Days p.wk-including some weekends Average of 8 hours p.day

Previous experience as a Personal Assistant or supporting someone with learning disabilities would be highly valued, although the right attitude, patience and commitment are equally important.
