About the role – We are looking for a creative, enthusiastic and person centred learning & engagement coordinator to develop and deliver meaningful learning, activity and community opportunities for the service users.
This is a hands on role for someone who enjoys building genuine relationships discovering what people are interested in and helping them recognise and develop their strengths, abilities and potential.
You will work closely with service users to understand their individual interests, hobbies, aspirations and goals and use this information to create opportunities that promote choice, independence, confidence, learning, social inclusion, and community participation.
The successful candidate will be approachable, enthusiastic and creative, with the ability to think differently and develop activities and opportunities that are meaningful to the individuals we support. You will need to be comfortable taking the initiative, adapting plans when circumstances change and finding new and imaginative ways to engage people.
Key responsibilities –
Person centre engagement – build positive, respectful, and trusting relationships with service users. Spend time getting to know each individual, including their interests, hobbies, strengths, abilities, communication preferences, and aspirations. Identify opportunities for individuals to develop existing skills and explore new interests. Encourage services users to express their views, make choices and have an active role in deciding how they spend their time. Support individuals to build confidence, independence and self esteem through meaningful activities and experiences. Ensure activities are accessible and adapted to meet individual needs, abilities and preferences.
Learning & Activity planning – Plan, organise and deliver a varied programme of learning, recreational, creative, social and community based activities. Develop activities both within the centre and in the wider community. Introduce new ideas and opportunities based on the interests and aspirations of the service users. Think creatively and ‘outside the box' to identify new ways of engaging individuals. Provide opportunities for service users to learn practical and life skills which can contribute towards greater independence. Encourage service users to try new experiences while ensuring appropriate support and risk management is in place. Review activities regularly to establish what individuals have gained from their participation and how opportunities can be developed further. Maintain accurate records of activities, participation and outcomes in accordance with the organisations procedures.
Community engagement & external partnerships – develop positive working relationships with local organisations, community volunteering groups, education and training providers, along with other external agencies. Liaise with external organisations to arrange appropriate learning sessions, workshops, activities and community opportunities for service users. Identify new organisations and opportunities that could benefit the service users. Represent the organisation professional when working with external partners and members of the wider community. Identify suitable volunteering opportunities that reflect the interests, abilities and aspirations of the service users. Build relationships with local volunteering organisations, charities and community groups. Liaise with external organisations to arrange and coordinate volunteering opportunities. Help individuals develop transferable skills such as communication, teamwork, time keeping, responsibility and confidence. Work collaboratively with colleagues to resolve any barriers or concerns.
Risk management & Safeguarding – Complete and contribute to appropriate risk assessments for activities and community visits. Ensure activities are planned with appropriate consideration of health, safety, safeguarding, accessibility, staffing, equipment, and individual support needs. Follow the organisational safeguarding, health and safety, incident reporting and risk management procedures. Ensure risk assessments and activity plans are reviewed when circumstances change.
Planning & resources – Plan activities and opportunities in advance, ensuring appropriate resources, staffing, transport are available. Manage activity resources responsibly and within agreed budgets. Coordinate activity programmes effectively. Be prepared to adapt plans when required while maintaining a safe and person centred approach.
Person specification:
Experience of working with people in a care, support, education, community activities, learning or similar environment
Experience of developing positive relationships with individuals and understanding their interests, strengths and goals.
Experience of planning and organising activities, sessions, events or projects.
Ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of people
Ability to work independently, use initiative and manage competing priorities.
Good organisational and forward planning skills
Ability to complete risk assessment and identify appropriate measures.
Ability to plan and resource effectively
Ability to maintain accurate records and communicate information clearly
