EHS Manager – Contract position
Location: Hertfordshire
Contract: 6 months initially, potential extension
Working pattern: Monday–Friday, flexible hours
Day rate: Around £450 per day (inside IR35 PAYE via umbrella)
The Role
We are looking for an experienced EHS professional / EHS Manager to support a medium-sized manufacturing site in Hertfordshire.
The initial contract will be 6 months, with a good chance of extension. We're looking to bring someone in on contract who can stabilise the site, address the current backlog and make a clear impact.
This is a hands-on management position with responsibility for the site's day-to-day EHS performance. You will have an EHS Advisor reporting directly to you, so you will need to be confident managing, delegating and providing direction while remaining close to the operational detail.
About the Site
The site is a medium-sized manufacturing facility producing a variety of mainly cement and sand-based products.
There are 100+ employees working across operations, alongside a larger office-based population.
The site is currently in need of additional EHS support and structure. This includes external audits, environmental requirements, risk assessments, COSHH assessments and machine assessments.
The immediate priority will be to understand what needs to be addressed, establish clear priorities and then make sure the required actions are completed. You will have the opportunity to make a visible difference to the site and help move it towards becoming a flagship operation.
About You
You will have a strong manufacturing EHS background and be comfortable operating at both a strategic and practical level.
We are particularly interested in professionals with experience in:
Manufacturing environments
Chemical safety
Bulk chemical storage
COSHH
Risk assessments
Machinery / machine assessments
External audits
Environmental compliance
ISO 14001
Permitted sites, particularly Part A and Part B
You will need to be highly organised and confident in prioritising a busy workload, as there are a number of areas requiring attention. Strong people skills are important, as you will be responsible for managing and work with the EHS Advisor while working closely with the wider operational team.
You should be someone who can assess a situation, identify what genuinely needs to be done, create a practical plan and then drive that plan through to completion.
Working HoursThis is primarily a day-based role, with flexibility around working hours depending on your circumstances.
The site operates a three-shift pattern, but there is no regular requirement for the EHS professional to work nights. Occasional out-of-hours support may be required in the event of an incident.
Contract
Initial 6-month contract
Potential longer-term opportunity depending on the site's requirements
