As a WCA Functional Assessor, you'll use the clinical knowledge you've built throughout your career to assess how a person's health conditions or disabilities affect their functional ability and capacity for work.
No hands-on care. No shift work. No nights. No weekends.
Instead, you'll be using your assessment skills, clinical reasoning, professional judgement and communication skills in a structured Monday–Friday role.
What Does a WCA Functional Assessor Actually Do?
You'll carry out structured assessments with individuals by telephone, video and face-to-face, exploring how their physical and/or mental health conditions affect their ability to work.
What you'll do:
Review medical information and clinical evidence
Take detailed clinical histories
Explore how conditions affect functional ability
Use your clinical reasoning to assess the information provided
Produce clear, accurate and evidence-based reports
Manage your own caseload and workload
Communicate professionally and empathetically with each individualThe assessment report provides evidence to support the DWP's decision-making process; you are not responsible for making the final benefit decision.

Your existing skills in assessing patients, understanding different health conditions, making clinical decisions and keeping accurate records will all be valuable in the Functional Assessor role.
You'll also develop new skills in clinical assessment, report writing and evidence-based decision-making.

Active NMC or HCPC registration
A minimum of 12 months' post-registration clinical experience
Strong communication skills
Good clinical reasoning and decision-making ability
Confidence assessing and documenting clinical information
The ability to work independently and manage a caseloadSponsorship is not available for this position.
