Health, Safety & Environmental Advisor
Location: Bridgwater, Somerset
Salary: £45-50k
Contract: Permanent
We are looking for a proactive and hands-on Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) Advisor to support manufacturing operations across two local sites and help drive a strong culture of safety, environmental responsibility and continuous improvement.
This is a highly visible, practical role working closely with managers, employees, contractors and external stakeholders. You will provide expert HS&E guidance, support legal and regulatory compliance, and help ensure a safe, healthy and environmentally responsible workplace.
Key responsibilities:
Maintain and continually improve ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 management systems.
Coordinate internal and external audits, inspections and corrective actions.
Monitor HS&E performance, KPIs and trends, identifying opportunities for improvement.
Provide practical HS&E advice, coaching and support to employees and managers at all levels.
Support risk assessments, incident investigations, root-cause analysis and corrective actions.
Deliver inductions, toolbox talks, briefings and HS&E awareness initiatives.
Coordinate worker consultation and engagement activities to promote a positive safety culture.
Support emergency preparedness and response arrangements.
Lead or support initiatives relating to waste, energy, carbon and resource efficiency.
Provide HS&E input into contractor activities, new equipment, plant modifications and engineering projects.
Liaise with regulators, auditors, contractors, suppliers and specialist service providers.
About you
You will have practical experience in HS&E within a manufacturing, engineering, industrial or similar operational environment, together with a good understanding of UK health, safety and environmental legislation.
You should have:
NEBOSH General Certificate (or equivalent).
Experience with ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 and internal auditing.
Experience in incident investigation, risk management and HS&E improvement.
Knowledge of environmental compliance, waste management or energy/carbon reduction.
Strong communication, influencing and organisational skills.
Confidence engaging with people at all levels and challenging constructively when required.
Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office; SharePoint and Power BI experience would be advantageous.
