A highly regarded specialist school in Wantage is looking for a Mental Health Assistant to support children and young people aged 3-19 with a range of complex additional needs, including Autism (ASD), Moderate, Severe and Profound Learning Difficulties (MLD/SLD/PMLD).
This is an excellent opportunity to gain experience within a specialist, multidisciplinary environment, working alongside teachers, therapists and experienced support staff to help pupils develop their communication, emotional regulation, social skills, confidence and independence.
You'll support pupils both inside and outside the classroom, using specialist approaches to help them overcome barriers to learning and develop essential life skills. The school offers specialist learning environments, sensory facilities and a broad curriculum, providing excellent exposure to a wide range of complex needs and therapeutic approaches.
The role:
Supporting children and young people with complex SEN
Promoting emotional wellbeing and positive engagement
Developing communication, social and independence skills
Supporting sensory-based and practical activities

Working alongside teachers, therapists and specialist staff
Encouraging confidence, resilience and personal developmentThe ideal candidate:
Psychology Graduate or graduate from a related subject
Interested in pursuing Psychology, Therapy, Mental Health or SEN
Passionate about supporting children and young people
Patient, empathetic and resilient
Confident building positive relationships
Previous experience with children or vulnerable individuals is desirable but not essentialWhy apply?
