Single Homeless Project has a new opportunity for a Caseworker to join and work in our team based in Hackney, London. You will join us on a full-time, permanent basis, and in return, you will receive a competitive salary starting at £29,822.41 and rising incrementally to £32,035.46 per annum (pro rata).
We’re London’s leading homelessness charity – and we get things done.
In a city where hundreds are forced into homelessness every day, our work has never been more needed or more challenging. And we’re not shying away. We’re rolling up our sleeves to make change and helping over 10,000 Londoners every year. We prevent homelessness, provide safe places to live and give people the opportunity to rebuild their lives and transform their futures. And we never give up.
We’re here for Londoners wherever they are on their journey. We start with trust, building relationships that help people feel safe, supported, and ready to move forward. Every day, we put people first in everything we do, challenging injustice and barriers that keep people from the safety, stability and opportunity they deserve. We stand alongside people as they rebuild and shape a future that feels their own.
Joining Single Homeless Project means joining a team that’s bold, compassionate and determined to do better for the people we support and for each other. You’ll work alongside colleagues with lived experience, in a space that’s trans-inclusive, disability-friendly, and actively striving to be anti-oppressive and equitable.
We’re not perfect, but we’re real. We listen. We learn. And we push forward, together. Because this isn’t just a job. It’s a chance to lead with empathy, spark change, and help build a London where no one is left behind.
About the Caseworker role:
Preventing homelessness often comes down to what happens in the weeks and days before someone loses their home. As a Caseworker within our Single Homeless Prevention Service (SHPS) in Hackney, you’ll work at that critical point, helping single adults understand their housing options, overcome barriers and secure a route towards a safe and sustainable home.
Working closely with Hackney’s Housing Options teams, you’ll manage a caseload of people referred into the service and turn assessments into action. You’ll develop clear, co-produced Personal Housing Plans, identify realistic housing solutions and provide focused, practical support to help clients prevent or relieve their homelessness. A key part of your role will be helping people access private rented accommodation, requiring persistence, strong negotiation skills and the ability to keep momentum when housing options are limited or circumstances change.
You’ll take a proactive approach to every case: completing strengths based assessments, managing risk and safeguarding concerns, gathering the information needed to move cases forward and building strong relationships with landlords, housing colleagues and other agencies. Your focus won’t simply be on finding somewhere for someone to live, but on helping them build the stability, confidence and practical foundations to sustain their tenancy and move forward independently.
About you as our Caseworker:
You know how to navigate the private rented sector and understand the housing and homelessness legislation that shapes the options available to clients.
You can turn conversations into clear, purposeful support plans that are genuinely co-produced and keep people moving towards their goals.
You’re organised, responsive and able to keep momentum across a busy caseload, balancing deadlines, targets and changing priorities without losing sight of what matters.
You’re confident building relationships across housing, statutory and voluntary sector partners, and know how to use those relationships to unlock better outcomes for clients.
You bring persistence, empathy and a strengths-based approach, helping people recognise what’s possible, stay engaged and build greater independence.
Our attractive benefits package includes:
A salary increase after successfully completing six month's probationary period
A 37.5 hour working week including flexible working hours (core hours are 10am – 4pm) in non-accommodation services
