If you're already working in environmental role within rail, construction, utilities or infrastructure, the next move probably needs to offer more than another Environmental Advisor title.
This role gives you exposure to a varied programme of rail infrastructure work across Scotland, supporting projects encompassing signalling, power, civils, electrification and installation. You'll be close to the work, trusted by project teams and able to see the environmental input you provide translated into how projects are actually delivered.
The role and about the Environmental Advisor
You'll join an established infrastructure contractor delivering work across the Scottish rail network, spending around two days each week from the Glasgow office and the remainder predominantly supporting projects across Scotland.
Rather than being confined to policy and reporting, you'll work directly with project and operational teams. Your remit will include environmental inspections and audits, environmental constraints and ecology, waste, noise and vibration, carbon and sustainability, alongside KPI reporting and environmental data.
You'll also provide practical advice, briefings and coaching to project teams, helping environmental requirements become part of day-to-day project delivery rather than simply an exercise in compliance.
The breadth of the programme is important. Exposure to different disciplines and stages of infrastructure delivery gives you the opportunity to expand your technical experience rather than becoming narrowly associated with one type of project.
You may already be working as an Environmental Advisor, or you could be an Assistant Environmental Advisor or Ecologist ready to broaden your remit.
What matters is that you can bring practical environmental experience from a project or site-based environment, ideally within rail, construction, utilities, energy or wider infrastructure. An HNC or higher qualification in Environmental Management, Sustainability or a related discipline would provide the relevant technical foundation.
You'll need to be comfortable working directly with operational teams and travelling throughout Scotland. Some projects will also require occasional overnight stays and night or weekend attendance.

You'll be joining an established UK infrastructure contractor with a significant presence in rail and a continuing programme of work across Scotland.
