Helping keep Wotton‑under‑Edge connected, organised and welcoming.
Wotton-under-Edge Town Council is strengthening its operational team as part of a wider period of organisational growth. As more residents, groups and visitors use our buildings, parks and community spaces, we are investing in the practical capability needed to keep the town’s estate running smoothly. We are looking for an Estates Officer who takes pride in hands-on work and enjoys helping maintain the places people rely on every day.
About the role
This is a practical, varied role supporting the day-to-day care of the Council’s buildings, green spaces and public areas. Working alongside the Deputy Estates Manager, you will carry out routine inspections, minor repairs, grounds maintenance and event setup across a wide range of assets, from play areas and allotments to the cemetery, car parks and community venues.
You will support statutory checks, respond to defects, assist contractors on site and help ensure facilities remain safe, functional and well looked after. No two days are the same, and your work will make a visible difference to how residents experience the town’s shared spaces.
As the Council grows, you will play an important part in strengthening the resilience of our facilities function and supporting improvements across the estate.
About you
You will bring:
Practical experience in facilities, maintenance or estates work
Confidence carrying out minor repairs, inspections and outdoor tasks
A steady, helpful approach when working with residents, hirers and contractors
Strong organisation and the ability to manage competing tasks
Awareness of safe working practices, PPE and basic compliance routines
Ability to work independently while contributing positively to a small team
Reliability, professionalism and pride in maintaining community spaces
Experience in local government or community facilities is helpful, but what matters most is your practical capability, your attention to detail and your commitment to public service.
If you enjoy hands-on work, take pride in keeping places in good condition and want to help maintain the spaces that matter most to the community, this role offers a meaningful opportunity to contribute to Wotton-under-Edge’s next phase of development
