Estimator – Construction

An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced Estimator to join a long-established construction company based in Gloucester.
The business undertakes a diverse range of construction projects across the Midlands, South and South West, working within the education, residential, commercial, healthcare, private-client and insurance-repair sectors. Projects range from smaller refurbishment works through to major construction schemes valued at up to £25 million.
The company is looking for a capable and commercially aware Estimator who can accurately assess project costs and prepare competitive tenders.
Responsibilities

Review tender documents, drawings, specifications and bills of quantities.

Prepare detailed and accurate cost estimates for construction projects.

Complete material and labour take-offs.

Obtain and evaluate quotations from subcontractors and suppliers.

Identify suitable subcontractors for individual work packages.

Prepare tender submissions and supporting documentation.

Assess project risks, opportunities and potential cost implications.

Work closely with the pre-construction, commercial and operational teams.

Attend tender meetings, site visits and handover meetings.

Maintain up-to-date knowledge of construction costs and market conditions.

Assist with value-engineering exercises and alternative construction solutions.

Ensure tenders are completed accurately and submitted within the required deadlines.
Candidate requirements

Previous estimating experience within a main contractor or general construction environment.

Good knowledge of construction methods, materials and subcontractor packages.

Strong numerical, analytical and commercial skills.

Able to read and interpret drawings, specifications and tender documentation.

Good communication and negotiation abilities.

Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple tenders.

Comfortable working independently and as part of a wider pre-construction team.

Relevant construction qualification would be beneficial but is not essential for an experienced candidate.
