FULL STACK DEVELOPER
Fully Remote (UK Timezone Required)
Competitive Salary, dependent on experience | Permanent, Full-Time
Join a small, high-impact technology team at the heart of an established education and assessment organisation, and help shape the systems that support learners, centres and the certification process across the sector. This is a genuinely rare opportunity to step into a role with real ownership, real variety, and a direct line of sight to the impact of your work.
The Opportunity
Our client is investing seriously in its technology right now, and this role sits right in the middle of that transformation. You'll be working across a broad and varied stack, moving legacy PHP off an ageing LAMP setup and onto DigitalOcean, alongside modern JavaScript and Next.js development, with Go increasingly used for new backend services.
Because the team is small, this isn't a role where you sit quietly working through a ticket queue. You'll have genuine influence over technical decisions and the chance to help define how the technology evolves over the next few years, working closely alongside an experienced technical lead.
What You'll Be Doing
-
Working across the full stack: legacy PHP modernisation, JavaScript/Next.js development, and emerging Go services
-
Supporting the migration from an old LAMP stack onto DigitalOcean infrastructure
-
Maintaining and gradually modernising Drupal-based systems
-
Making independent, well-judged technical decisions, not just following a spec
-
Keeping security, data protection and reliability front of mind, given the sensitivity of the learner data involved
-
Contributing to architecture and infrastructure decisions, not just feature delivery
What We're Looking For
-
Around 7+ years' full stack development experience
-
A genuine generalist, comfortable moving between legacy and modern systems, frontend and backend
-
Strong PHP experience, plus solid JavaScript/Node skills
-
Experience with legacy codebases and a pragmatic sense of what to fix, refactor or rewrite
-
A natural instinct for security and data protection, not something you need to be reminded of
-
A self-starting, resourceful mindset: comfortable picking up a problem and running with it
-
Confidence working in a small team without heavy process around you
Desirable
-
Experience with Go
-
DevOps or infrastructure experience (DigitalOcean, cloud hosting, CI/CD)
-
Previous experience in the education, EdTech or assessment sector
What's On Offer
-
Fully remote working, UK timezone required
-
Competitive salary, reflective of experience
-
Genuine autonomy and ownership over your work
-
Direct exposure to infrastructure, architecture and security decisions
-
A close-knit, collaborative team where your input genuinely shapes decisions
-
The chance to work with modern tooling (Go, Next.js, DigitalOcean) alongside meaningful legacy modernisation work
Important to Note
Candidates must be based in, and working, UK timezone hours (GMT/BST). Some evening overlap with the core team may be required during the initial onboarding period.
