Learning Support Assistant - Year 2 - Down Syndrome
Location: Streatham, Lambeth

Contract: Full-time, long-term
Pay: £105-£120 per day
A welcoming and inclusive primary school in Lambeth is looking for a caring and committed Learning Support Assistant to provide dedicated 1:1 support to a Year 2 pupil with Down Syndrome.
This is a rewarding opportunity for an experienced Learning Support Assistant, Teaching Assistant or SEN Teaching Assistant who is passionate about helping children with additional needs develop their confidence, communication and independence.
The Role
You will work closely with the class teacher, SENCO and wider support team to provide consistent, individualised support throughout the school day.
Your responsibilities will include:
Providing dedicated 1:1 support to a Year 2 pupil with Down Syndrome
Supporting access to the curriculum through adapted activities and resources
Developing communication, social skills and independence
Supporting the pupil with classroom routines and transitions
Encouraging participation in lessons, play and wider school activities
Providing emotional and behavioural support when required
Working towards individual targets and EHCP outcomes
Liaising closely with the class teacher and SENCO
Providing intimate and personal care when required
About You
The school is looking for someone who is patient, nurturing and consistent, with the ability to build a strong and trusting relationship with the pupil.
Previous experience supporting children with Down Syndrome, complex learning needs or other SEND would be advantageous. Experience with communication difficulties, speech and language needs or developmental delay would also be beneficial.
You must be comfortable providing intimate care as part of the role and understand the importance of maintaining the pupil's dignity, privacy and independence at all times.

Can encourage independence rather than creating dependency
Is confident working on a one-to-one basis
Communicates effectively with teachers and support staff
Is reliable and committed to the pupil's long-term development
