The Role
As Metrology Engineer, you will be responsible for reviewing, optimising and standardising measurement processes across several manufacturing facilities. You'll assess existing methodologies, identify opportunities for improvement, and develop a long-term strategy focused on efficiency, repeatability, and best practice.
Working closely with Quality, Manufacturing, Engineering and Operations teams, you will provide technical leadership for metrology activities while supporting business-wide continuous improvement initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
Review and evaluate existing measurement processes and inspection methodologies.
Analyse CMM programs, measurement frequencies, equipment utilisation and process efficiency.
Conduct site assessments and identify opportunities for standardisation and improvement.
Develop and implement a group-wide metrology and CMM strategy.
Create standardised programming and inspection procedures.
Optimise measurement routines to improve throughput and reduce unnecessary inspection activity.
Identify opportunities to increase automation and reduce process variation.
Support equipment investment planning, upgrades and technology improvements.
Drive consistency in reporting, data analysis and quality measurement activities.
Develop technical standards, work instructions and best practice documentation.
Deliver training and mentoring to inspection and metrology teams.
Support audits, customer requirements and technical measurement queries.What We're Looking For
Essential
Proven experience as a Metrology Engineer, CMM Engineer or CMM Programmer within a precision manufacturing environment.
Strong experience with CMM programming software, ideally PC-DMIS.
Excellent understanding of GD&T, engineering drawings and geometric tolerancing.
Knowledge of measurement systems, probing technologies and inspection methodologies.
Experience conducting measurement system analysis (MSA), capability studies and statistical process control (SPC).
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Experience implementing process improvements and standardisation initiatives.
Ability to influence stakeholders across multiple departments and locations.Desirable
Experience working within a multi-site manufacturing organisation.
Knowledge of automated inspection technologies, laser scanning, non-contact measurement systems or advanced metrology techniques.
Understanding of lean manufacturing and continuous improvement methodologies.
HNC, HND or Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering or a related discipline.
Metrology or CMM programming certification.What's On Offer
