A local authority in the North West is seeking an experienced Private Sector Housing Officer to join their team on an initial 6-month contract.
This is an excellent opportunity to work within a busy regulatory service, delivering Private Sector Housing functions while also supporting the Environmental Health team with Statutory Nuisance investigations. The successful candidate will play a key role in protecting residents, improving housing standards, and ensuring compliance with relevant legislation.
Key Responsibilities

Carry out inspections of private sector residential properties.

Assess housing conditions using the Housing Health and Safety Rating System (HHSRS).

Investigate complaints relating to housing disrepair, poor housing conditions, and landlord compliance.

Prepare and serve statutory notices and undertake enforcement action where necessary.

Support the investigation of Statutory Nuisance complaints, including noise and environmental issues.

Provide guidance and advice to landlords, tenants, and property managers.

Prepare case files, reports, and legal documentation.

Work collaboratively with internal departments and external agencies to achieve positive outcomes.
Essential Requirements

Previous experience working within a local authority Private Sector Housing Team.

Strong knowledge of the Housing Act 2004 and HHSRS.

Experience undertaking housing inspections and enforcement activity.

Experience investigating or supporting Statutory Nuisance cases.

Excellent communication and case management skills.

Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle.

Environmental Health qualification or relevant housing qualification.
