Location: Barrow-in-Furness
Working Arrangement: Predominantly onsite; flexibility to be discussed at interview
Contract: 3 months initially, with potential for extension
Rate: Up to £600 per day (Inside IR35)
Expenses & Overtime: Payable in line with client policy
Due to the nature of this position, candidates must meet all of the following requirements:
Hold active UK MOD SC clearance
Be a sole UK national - candidates must hold UK nationality only
Have not spent more than 28 consecutive days outside the UK during the last 5 years
Their MOD SC clearance must have been actively used within the last 12 months
Have at least 3 months remaining on their current SC clearance to allow sufficient time for interview, offer and clearance transfer
The Role
We are looking for an experienced Database Administrator with strong technical expertise in SQL and Solaris.
You will be responsible for supporting database environments across a range of technologies, potentially including Oracle, SQL Server, MySQL and PostgreSQL. Experience across multiple database platforms would be advantageous, although expertise in all technologies is not essential.
The role will involve a combination of Business-as-Usual (BAU) support and project-based activities, working within a security-focused environment. Experience with earlier versions of the technologies would also be beneficial.
Key Responsibilities
Complete assigned technical activities within agreed timeframes
Undertake project tasks and provide support to both internal and external Project Managers
Provide effective database administration and technical support
Work across BAU and project environments
Produce and maintain accurate technical documentation
Communicate effectively with customers and stakeholders
Work independently while also contributing effectively as part of a wider team
Travel to other UK locations when required
Essential Skills & Experience
Deep expertise in SQL
Strong experience with Solaris
Minimum 3 years' experience in Database Administration
Experience with one or more of the following:
Oracle
Microsoft SQL Server
MySQL
PostgreSQL
Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Strong customer-facing skills
Ability and willingness to travel to other UK locations when required
Desirable
Experience working with multiple database technologies
Experience supporting older/legacy versions of database technologies
Oracle or Microsoft certification
Previous experience working within secure or highly regulated environments
