Job Summary:
Bournewood Health systems is looking for Health Information Specialist to join their HIS team. This position will support the Health Information Services Department while having both technical and administrative responsibilities. Primary responsibilities will be responding to requests for patient information, assisting with preparing for audits and maintenance of the file area. Performs other duties as directed.
Essential Functions:
Processes requests for patient information in a timely manner ensuring a proper authorization to release information is on file
Files all medical records in correct sequence
Retrieves records for physicians and staff when requested to facilitate record completion process
Pulls medical records for studies, surveys and reviews
Processes requests for court appointed attorneys in a timely manner
Performs any other duties as assigned by supervisor

Job Requirements:
Bachelor's degree preferred.
Experience working in a healthcare environment is strongly preferred.
One to two years of health information services experience required. Preferably with (EMR) Electronic Medical Records Experience.
Candidates must have strong organizational and interpersonal skills, be detail-oriented and the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
Knowledge of governmental, accrediting and regulatory requirements is preferred. Ability to maintain confidentiality of all patient related information, ability to work independently with little direct supervision.
Experience working in a Health Information Services Department is preferred.
