The Physicians’ Clinic of Iowa Department of ENT is seeking a full time CMA/LPN/RN to work as a team member within our busy practice. This person will perform general patient care duties and will be responsible for, among other things, greeting and rooming patients, maintaining records of vitals and other pertinent data of patient.
Assist and be available to physician during office hours, preparing patients for examination (according to individual physician preference), assist with procedures and send specimens to lab (if appropriate), record pertinent data. As certified medical staff, complete orders per physician direction, consent for surgery and pre-surgical screening questions.
Provide patient education at physician request. Explain nature of examinations, diagnostic tests and treatment to patient as needed. Record test results and notify patients of results as directed by physician. Ensure test results that return, are initialed by physician/or electronic signature is in place. Utilize EMR to track all ordered tests, labs, and referrals and follow through with patients.
Triage calls in coordination with reception team for physicians and answer questions for patients. Evaluate patient’s needs over the phone, i.e. evaluate the acuteness of the patient’s problem and determine if and how soon the patient should be seen by the physician; reinforce physician’s instructions regarding wound care, use of pain medication, etc. Relay all messages to physician.
Maintain exam rooms, clean according to OSHA regulations, prepare and replenish supplies, stock rooms as needed. Clean instruments and assure maintenance of diagnostic equipment. Dispose of contaminated and disposable items according to OSHA regulations. Abides by all OSHA regulations; gloves, mask, lab coats, etc.
Must be able to work with all employees as a team member, in a spirit of cooperation and maintain a professional atmosphere in the office at all times. Contribute to making the patients that visit PCI a pleasant and positive experience.
The successful candidate must maintain patient confidentiality and demonstrate a high level of professionalism at all times. The qualified individual will be patient focused and must work well with team members. Must also have a high level of comfort in working with computer systems.
Prefer two years of general patient care experience and experience working in an ENT office a plus. Must have current nursing license or Medical Assisting certification.
