Secondary Learning Support Assistant
Prospero Teaching is recruiting a dedicated and enthusiastic Secondary Learning Support Assistant to work in secondary schools across the Southampton area for a September start. This is an excellent opportunity to support young people throughout their educational journey and help them achieve their full potential in the classroom.
Working closely with teachers and support staff, you will provide additional support to students who may require assistance with learning, organisation, confidence, behaviour, or classroom engagement. Support may be provided on a 1:1 basis or within small groups, depending on the needs of the school and students.
This role is ideal for individuals who are passionate about education and enjoy helping young people succeed.
The Role:
Provide 1:1 support and small‑group interventions for students
Support pupils during lessons across a variety of subjects
Help students remain engaged, focused, and motivated in their learning
Assist with classroom activities and learning resources
Encourage positive behaviour and learning habits
Support students' confidence, independence, and academic progress
Work collaboratively with teachers and support staff
Maintain a positive, inclusive, and structured learning environment
Follow safeguarding and school policies consistently
Ideal Candidate:
Experience working with young people
Patient, supportive, and approachable manner
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Able to build positive relationships with students and staff
Flexible and adaptable approach
Reliable and able to work effectively as part of a team
Backgrounds in coaching, youth work, tutoring, childcare, or education welcomed
Graduates looking to gain school-based experience encouraged to apply
Contract Details:
Position: Secondary Learning Support Assistant
Location: Southampton
Start Date: September
Working Pattern: Full‑time, term‑time
Pay Rate: £14.25 - £15.66 per hour
Experience, Training & Safeguarding:
Experience working with young people desirable
SEN experience beneficial but not essential
Safeguarding training can be provided
