We have an exciting opportunity for a Radiographer Assistant Higher in West Hertfordshire Hospitals NHS Trust to join the Radiology Department at St Albans City Hospital and Watford General Hospital. You will be responsible for supporting Radiology staff in the delivery of high-quality radiology services, assisting Radiologists in specialised areas of work, and providing direct patient care within the department. You will support patient transfers, reception and clerical duties, image transfers, and routine daily checks while ensuring a smooth and efficient service for patients and clinical teams. The role involves working closely with Porters to facilitate safe patient movement and handling, with opportunities to support a range of imaging modalities including MRI, CT, Ultrasound, Plain Film, Mammography, Interventional Radiology, and Fluoroscopy as required.
Main duties of the job
As a Radiographer Assistant Higher, you will be responsible for upholding the professional standards of the department and undertaking a range of delegated duties to support departmental objectives. You will be managing allocated responsibilities effectively, contributing to the organisation and prioritisation of departmental activities while working as part of a multidisciplinary team. You will support discussions around service development by identifying opportunities for improvement and sharing suggestions that enhance working practices. You will also be responsible for communicating with patients, relatives, and carers in a professional and reassuring manner, providing clear explanations and information when required.

Responsibilities of this job role
To monitor and maintain clinical areas by preparing examination rooms, checking availability of consumables, and ensuring equipment and surroundings are clean, safe, and suitable for departmental use.
To maintain accurate records and process information using relevant electronic systems, including updating patient details, handling imaging requests, and supporting the secure transfer of clinical information when required.
To complete administrative and reception duties as directed, including arranging appointments, responding to departmental requests, and ensuring documentation is completed accurately and efficiently.
To monitor stock levels and assist with the management of supplies by checking expiry dates, identifying shortages or discrepancies, and escalating concerns through the appropriate channels.
To follow departmental procedures and safety requirements by carrying out equipment checks, reporting faults or malfunctions, and ensuring compliance with relevant policies and regulations.
To participate in training and development activities by supporting the induction of new staff, assisting learners within the department, and maintaining own knowledge through mandatory and additional training.

To be successful in applying for this role you will need:

GCSEs in English and Maths or equivalent qualification.

NVQ Level 3 in Customer Care, Healthcare or willingness to work towards.

Knowledge of Radiology Assistant duties and responsibilities.

Experience with EPR systems, computer applications, and patient administration.

Good communication skills with ability to prioritise patient lists and support clinical procedures.
