This welcoming and nurturing school supports secondary-aged students with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) and a range of additional learning needs, including pupils who may display challenging behaviour. Through personalised support and a structured approach, the school helps every student develop the confidence, independence and life skills needed to succeed.
The Role
As a Learning Support Assistant, you will work closely with teachers and the wider support team to provide tailored support on a 1:1 basis, in small groups and within the classroom. Your role will be key in helping students engage with learning, regulate their emotions and achieve positive outcomes.
Key responsibilities include:
Supporting students with autism and additional learning needs.
Building strong, positive relationships that encourage trust, engagement and progress.
Supporting students who may present with challenging behaviour using consistent behaviour management strategies.
Promoting emotional regulation, communication skills and independence.
Delivering tailored 1:1 and small-group support.
Working cohesively with teachers, SENCOs and the wider pastoral team.
Using initiative while contributing positively as part of a supportive staff team.
The ideal candidate will:
Be passionate about supporting young people with additional learning requirements.
Have experience within education, SEN, care, residential or support settings (desirable).
Demonstrate strong communication and relationship-building skills.
Be calm, proactive and confident in managing challenging behaviour.
Work effectively both independently and as part of a collaborative team.
