ASSISTANT TRANSPORT PLANNER
Location: South Hampshire
Start Date: June/July 2026
Salary: £26,000 - 38,000 p.a basic, + Benefits, depending on experience.
Unify HQ is supporting our client, a specialist transport planning and civil engineering consultancy in the appointment of an Assistant Transport Planner to join their growing development planning team. This role is ideal for someone with 1–2 years’ experience who is confident supporting senior colleagues with Transport Statements, Travel Plans, Technical Notes and pre‑application highways advice.
You’ll work closely with developers, architects and local authorities, preparing planning‑stage drawings, undertaking TRICS assessments, reviewing site layouts and contributing to Transport Assessment chapters.
The position offers hands‑on exposure to a wide range of development projects, from early feasibility through to planning submission, with opportunities to attend meetings, undertake site visits, assist with fee proposals and support marketing initiatives. The Role
You will support senior colleagues across all stages of project delivery, preparing Transport Statements, Travel Plans, pre‑application notes and contributing to Transport Assessment chapters and Technical Notes.
You’ll undertake site visits and attend meetings independently, assist with fee proposals, help prepare materials for public consultations, and interpret national and local planning policy to maximise development potential.
Alongside technical work, you’ll also support marketing and client‑facing initiatives, ensuring high‑quality project delivery and contributing to the wider growth of the business.
Key Responsibilities

Assist senior colleagues with project delivery; including report writing, drawings, attending meetings, reviewing budgets

Competently prepare Transport Statements, Travel Plans and Pre-application notes

Input into Transport Assessment chapters and Technical Notes and similar reports with input from senior colleagues

Competently use TRICS database to review a variety of land uses, site locations and how to use the database for sui generis uses

Complete basic planning-stage AutoCAD drawings such as visibility splays and tracking or small highways improvements, with minimal changes required post approval

Complete detailed site layout reviews including ability to provide high level feedback prior to detailed CAD review

Request, brief and instruct highways surveys (ATC, Parking, Topographical, etc)

Awareness and ability to undertake simple highway modelling with appropriate software and generate conclusions and future actions

Undertake site visits unsupervised

Attend meetings both supervised and unsupervised

Help preparing material for and supervised attendance at Public Consultations - Assist with fee proposal development

Efficiently interpret national and local planning guidance and policy to maximise the potential in new developments

Assist colleagues in planning and delivering marketing initiatives, including social media posts.

Assist colleagues with marketing the business, including through project delivery and client satisfaction
Requirements

Educated to Degree level

1to 2 years’ experience in the industry supporting senior colleagues

Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Ability to prioritise workload

Ability to work effectively with other staff and as part of a team - Ability to work on own initiative

Experience of working with computer-based systems including Microsoft programmes

Experience using AutoCAD, TRICs and modelling software

Knowledge of relevant policy and design guidance, such as MfS, DMRB, LTPs, LTNs and how/when to apply
