We are seeking a dedicated Behaviour Support Assistant to join a well-regarded specialist secondary school in Rochdale. This is a rewarding opportunity to support students with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, helping them engage with learning and thrive in a structured, supportive environment.
You'll be part of an experienced and well oiled staff team in a well-resourced setting that prioritises student wellbeing, inclusion, and progress. Every day, you'll play a key role in creating a calm, consistent, and nurturing atmosphere where pupils feel safe, understood, and ready to learn.
The Role
As a Behaviour Support Assistant, you will support students on a 1:1, group and small class basis, helping them to regulate their emotions, manage behaviour positively and access the curriculum successfully.
Key responsibilities include:
Supporting students with challenging behaviour and additional needs
Building strong, consistent and professional relationships
Implementing effective behaviour management strategies
De-escalating incidents calmly and confidently
Promoting resilience, emotional regulation and positive routines
Working closely with teaching staff, SENCO and pastoral teams
Contributing to a safe, structured and inclusive learning environmentThis role is ideal for candidates with experience in behaviour support, SEN, SEMH, youth work, alternative provision or secondary school settings.
