Position: Assistant Gas Engineer
Salary: £30000 p/annum
Location: Based in Tiverton/Exeter
Hours: Full-time, 42.5 hours p/week.
We're currently recruiting for a Mains & Services Assistant Engineer (Level 1) to join a busy and growing team working on gas network installations.
About the Role
This is a hands-on, varied position supporting Mains & Services Gas Engineers across a wide range of domestic and commercial projects. Work includes installing pipework, supporting underground vessel installations, and working across new housing developments and caravan parks.
You'll be involved in:
Assisting with installation of gas pipework to domestic properties
Working with a grundomat (mole) for trenchless pipe installation
Digging pits manually (ground conditions permitting) and completing reinstatement
Supporting underground vessel installations (working alongside excavator teams)
Testing and commissioning pipework
Working on new build sites (open trench) and commercial installationsThis is an outdoor role in a physically demanding environment, working in all weather conditions.
Key Responsibilities
Support Mains & Services Engineers in daily operations
Ensure high standards of health, safety, and environmental compliance
Deliver excellent customer service when working on-site
Accurately complete and submit all required paperwork
Follow company quality procedures and safe working practices
Use tools and equipment in line with best practice
Contribute to operational efficiency and team performance
Skills & Experience Required
Full UK Driving Licence (essential)
SHEA Gas (preferred)
Qualifications in Fresh Air Breathing Apparatus and Abrasive Wheels
NPORS (or similar) Forward Tipping Dumper (advantageous)
Strong work ethic and willingness to work in a physically demanding role
Good awareness of health & safety practices
