HR & Administration Officer

About the Role
We are seeking a highly organised and proactive HR & Administration Officer to provide essential administrative and HR support within a busy and dynamic school environment. This is a varied role requiring excellent attention to detail, strong communication skills, and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
You will play a key role in ensuring the smooth running of HR processes, maintaining accurate staff records, supporting recruitment, and contributing to safeguarding compliance.
Key Responsibilities
HR Administration
Maintain and update the Single Central Record (SCR), ensuring compliance at all times
Manage staff records using Arbor (Staff Information System)
Process new starters, leavers, and staff changes, including contracts and documentation
Coordinate safeguarding training for all staff and follow up on completion
Maintain accurate personnel files and staff lists
General Administration
Provide administrative support including filing, data entry, and report preparation
Manage HR and staff absence email inboxes
Take meeting notes and produce accurate documentation
Raise purchase orders and liaise with internal departments
Sickness & Absence Management
Monitor daily staff absence reports
Issue and track return-to-work and self-certification forms
Update absence records and produce reports
Escalate concerns to senior leadership where appropriate
Training & Development (CPD)
Coordinate and book staff training
Liaise with training providers and the finance team
Maintain accurate training records and produce reports
Performance Management
Track and record performance management processes
Support the administration of appraisal cycles
Follow up with managers to ensure timely completion
Recruitment Support
Liaise with agencies to advertise vacancies
Arrange interviews and trial days
Support pre-employment checks in line with safer recruitment practices
Assist with interview days and candidate coordination

Strong administrative and organisational skills
Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
Ability to handle confidential information sensitively
Experience with databases or HR systems (desirable)
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
