Finance Assistant
The Opportunity
A fantastic opportunity for a Finance Assistant to join a growing and fast-paced business within the construction sector.
This role offers the chance to support the Head of Finance in managing day-to-day financial operations, with a strong focus on purchase ledger, subcontractor accounts, and compliance processes such as CIS and Reverse Charge VAT. You’ll be part of a collaborative finance team with clear processes in place and opportunities to develop your skillset further.
Role Overview
You will be responsible for:
• Processing a high volume of supplier and subcontractor invoices accurately and in a timely manner
• Reconciling supplier statements and resolving discrepancies promptly
• Investigating invoice queries and chasing missing documentation
• Processing contractor valuations, including retentions in line with contract terms
• Liaising with Project Managers and Quantity Surveyors to verify certified amounts
• Ensuring all transactions comply with internal controls and audit requirements
• Managing supplier enquiries and resolving disputes professionally
• Maintaining supplier and subcontractor accounts within the purchase ledger
• Setting up new supplier accounts, including credit checks and PQQ processes
• Maintaining subcontractor insurance records to ensure compliance
• Processing weekly timesheets
• Reconciling company credit card transactions
• Supporting VAT processes, including Reverse Charge VAT (DRC)
• Assisting with VAT returns and preparing monthly CIS submissions
• Identifying opportunities to improve internal finance processes
About You
• 2–3 years’ experience in Accounts Payable / Purchase Ledger
• Experience within the construction industry is essential
• Strong knowledge of CIS and Domestic Reverse Charge VAT
• Experience working in a project-based accounting environment
• Understanding of contractor retentions and payment processes (preferred)
• Strong Excel skills and experience using systems such as Xero
• Highly organised with strong attention to detail
• Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
• Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines
• Proactive, self-motivated, and professional approach
