Are you an organised, people‑focused individual looking for a rewarding part‑time role within your local community? This is a fantastic opportunity to support the Town Mayor and Civic Team in a varied and meaningful position where no two days are the same.
We are seeking a Temporary Civic Assistant to provide administrative, event and community‑support duties at the heart of local government.
🌟 What You'll Be Doing
Civic & Event Support
Maintain the Town Mayor's diary and coordinate all engagements.
Plan and attend the Mayor's civic and charity events.
Liaise with venues and partners for fundraising activities.
Support the Mayor at events, ensuring smooth running throughout.
Assist with raffle organisation, ticket sales and prize collection.
Produce end‑of‑event reports outlining attendance and funds raised.Administration & Communications
Prepare for and attend the bi‑weekly Civic Briefing meeting.
Maintain the residents' communication log and liaise with key local agencies (KCC, FHDC, Community Warden, PCSO, grounds teams).
Collate and distribute incoming correspondence to relevant parties.
Update and maintain the Council's website and social media channels.
Support the creation of Council publications and media content.
Respond to enquiries from the public via telephone, email and face‑to‑face.
Carry out general office duties, including post, filing and correspondence.
Provide cover and undertake additional tasks as directed by the Town Clerk.âś” Essential Skills & Experience
GCSE/O‑Levels (minimum 5 subjects, grades A-C).
Strong IT skills.
Confident writing letters and reports.
Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritise under pressure.
Diary management experience.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Fast and accurate keyboard skills.
Ability to work with confidentiality and discretion.
Strong organisational and time‑management abilities.
Proactive approach to enquiries and correspondence.
Flexibility to work occasional evenings or weekends as required.✨ Desirable
Experience organising social events.
Previous local government experience.
Calm and professional when handling difficult situations.
Good judgement and initiative to take appropriate action.
Strong focus and awareness of time‑management requirements.🔒 DBS Requirement
A Standard DBS check is required.
We can accept an existing DBS if it is registered on the Update Service, or we can support you in completing a new application.
