Accounts Assistant – The Role:
We are looking for a proactive and detail-focused Accounts Assistant focusing on the Purchase Ledger, to support the day-to-day running of our Accounts Department. This is a varied role suited to someone who enjoys working across purchase ledger and wider accounts support. You will play a key role in ensuring accurate financial records, timely payments, and effective communication with suppliers, subcontractors, and our internal team.
Accounts Assistant – Key Responsibilities:

Control of purchase ledger on Sage 200 including allocations, statement reconciliations and auditing nominal coding

Verify subcontractors and carry out CIS returns

Process and record supplier and subcontractor invoices accurately and in a timely manner

Resolve invoice queries with suppliers and internal departments

Prepare and process supplier payment runs in line with agreed terms

Maintain accurate supplier account records and set up new suppliers

Ensure correct VAT treatment and compliance with company procedures

Assist with month-end processes, including accruals and reconciliations

Monitor and manage the purchase ledger inbox

Support audits by providing documentation and explanations when required

Carry out general finance administration and ad-hoc tasks as needed
Accounts Assistant – You:

Team player, whilst able to prioritise tasks and work independently
-
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
-
Previous experience in a purchase ledger or accounts payable role

Good understanding of accounting principles and VAT
-
Strong attention to detail and high level of accuracy

Excellent organisational and time-management skills
-
Confident communicator with the ability to deal with suppliers professionally

Competent in Microsoft Excel and accounting software (e.g. Sage or similar)

Ability to work independently and as part of a team
