Ready to be the calm in the chaos and the champion behind the scenes in a busy secondary school?
We’re looking for a dedicated Learning Support Assistant to join welcoming and well-led secondary schools across Sunderland. If you love seeing that lightbulb moment in Year 8 maths, or helping a shy Year 10 student find their confidence, this could be your next move.
As a Learning Support Assistant, you’ll play a vital role in supporting students across KS3 and KS4, working closely with teachers to keep learning on track and behaviour positive. No two days are the same, and that’s exactly why you’ll love it.
What you’ll be doing as a Learning Support Assistant:
Supporting students 1:1 and in small groups across a range of subjects
Helping pupils with SEND access the curriculum confidently
Encouraging positive behaviour and strong classroom routines
Working alongside subject teachers to adapt learning materials
Being that steady, supportive presence students rely on
Secondary schools in Sunderland need Learning Support Assistants who are proactive, patient, and ready to roll up their sleeves. You don’t need to know every Shakespeare quote by heart, but you do need empathy, resilience, and a genuine passion for helping young people thrive.
We’re looking for a Learning Support Assistant who:
Has experience working with young people, in schools or similar settings
Understands the pace and energy of secondary education
Can build strong, respectful relationships with teenagers
Remains calm, confident, and encouraging
Is committed to safeguarding and student wellbeing
Experience with SEND, SEMH, ADHD, or autism is highly valued. If you’ve worked in youth work, coaching, mentoring, or care, your skills are very welcome here.
