Assembly Operative – Swaging

Hours: 08:00–17:00 Monday to Thursday / 08:00–12:00 Friday (standard days)

A long‑established engineering manufacturer is seeking an Assembly Operative to join its specialist team, focusing primarily on swaging and the production of high‑pressure hoses and cable assemblies. The company designs and manufactures critical safety‑related mechanical systems used across the global aerospace sector, with exceptionally strong order books and long‑term stability.
The role
The Assembly Operative will work within the manufacturing cell to produce, assemble and test components to defined engineering and quality standards. The main focus of the position is swaging end fittings, manufacturing high‑pressure hoses, and ensuring all work meets the required specifications.
Key responsibilities include:
Swaging end fittings in line with process specifications and completing proof‑load testing.
Manufacturing hoses and cable assemblies: selecting materials, cutting to length, attaching end fittings, and applying heat‑shrink to PS417 standards.
Using crimping and assembly machinery, gauges and relevant hand tools.
Interpreting engineering drawings, build plans and specifications accurately.
Carrying out self‑inspection and quality checks.
Working safely at all times and following relevant H&S, COSHH and quality procedures.
Supporting continuous improvement and 5S activities.
Assisting with wider assembly tasks when needed.
Skills & experience
Essential:
Background in manufacturing or engineering.
Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
Confident using hand tools and basic measuring equipment.
Strong attention to detail, good concentration and manual dexterity.
Team‑oriented but able to work independently.
Desirable:
Experience in swaging, crimping or hose assembly.
Exposure to drilling, riveting or adhesive processes.
SAP experience.
Mechanical apprenticeship or equivalent training.
