Behaviour Support Assistant

We are seeking an experienced and compassionate Behaviour Support Worker / Behaviour Mentor to join a specialist primary SEN school supporting children aged 4–11 with complex learning needs, including Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD), Profound & Multiple Learning Disabilities (PMLD) and Autism (ASC). These pupils benefit from highly individualised education integrated with therapeutic support and personalised behaviour strategies.
About the Role
As a Behaviour Support Worker / Behaviour Mentor, you will:

Provide 1:1 and small-group behaviour support throughout the school day

Implement positive, restorative and trauma‑informed behaviour strategies to promote engagement and self‑regulation

Work with pupils with SLD, PMLD and associated communication, sensory or physical needs

Collaborate closely with teachers, SEN support staff, therapists, and external professionals to ensure consistency of approach

Contribute to behaviour plans, functional assessments, observations and tailored interventions

Support pupils’ social skills, emotional regulation, resilience and independence

Help maintain a safe, calm, structured and nurturing learning environment
What We’re Looking For

Experience supporting pupils with SEN, especially SLD, PMLD or Autism

A strong understanding of positive behaviour support and de‑escalation techniques

Patience, empathy, resilience, and a consistent approach
-
Excellent communication and teamwork skills
-
Ability to build trusting, respectful relationships with pupils

Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (essential)
