Our client is seeking an ambitious Assistant Quantity Surveyor to join their team in Basingstoke. As an Assistant Quantity Surveyor, you will support the Quantity Surveyors and Senior Quantity Surveyors in managing various commercial aspects of local contracts to maximise profit and control costs.
The Role
As an Assistant Quantity Surveyor, you will be involved in a variety of activities, including:
Processing and producing transparent weekly and monthly cost value reconciliation reports to ensure accurate and timely information.
Capturing and allocating all relevant costs and liabilities.
Maintaining long-term relationships with internal and external teams to ensure seamless transfer of information.
Assisting in managing business opportunities and risks by identifying and highlighting deviations from standard practices.
Supporting the development of commercial tenders, offers, and contracts in collaboration with the Quantity Surveyor.
Identifying and escalating inappropriate costs and monitoring which costs need transfer between business streams and contract cost centres.
Recording and tracking insurance claims.
Ensuring contract data and records are maintained and kept up to date.
Capturing and reporting direct labour payments, assisting in drafting and awarding sub-contracts, and assessing tenders.
Sharing learning and commercial best practices to encourage continuous improvement.
Compliance with Health, Safety, Quality and Environmental policies, procedures, and standards.
Compliance with driving standards policy.
Job Requirements
The ideal candidate will demonstrate:
Experience working in a complex team environment.
Experience in sub-contractor management.
Commercial awareness and understanding of NEC3 forms of contract.
Thorough understanding of relevant construction and contract law.
Excellent communication and analytical skills.
Problem-solving abilities and advanced Excel skills.
Ability to prioritise workload effectively.
Proactivity in identifying and escalating issues.
Resilience in facing setbacks and accountability for resolving problems.
Ability to constructively challenge and provide clear commercial information.

Relevant degree in construction or commercial management.
