Belmont Recruitment are currently seeking a Home to School Passenger Assistant to support safe and reliable transport for SEND pupils within the Wigan area. This is a part-time role working between 20 – 25 hours per week (route dependent), with home pick up available within the local area.
Overview:
This role involves supervising and supporting children with special educational needs during their journey to and from school. Induction and training will be provided. Applicants must be able to complete split shifts and either live within Wigan Borough or be able to travel to a designated meeting point.
Main Duties:

Supervise and ensure the safety and wellbeing of SEND pupils during the journey

Secure seatbelts, harnesses, and specialist equipment correctly

Act as a link between parents, school, and the management team for any issues

Manage challenging behaviour calmly and professionally

Follow emergency procedures including medical incidents or breakdowns
Essential Criteria:

Current Enhanced DBS clearance for working with children and vulnerable adults

Strong verbal communication abilities so that young children can understand

Ability to complete split (e.g. 7:30 to 09:30, 14:30 to 16:45)

Previous experience working with SEND children professionally, or voluntary/personal experience with SEND

Understanding of child protection and safeguarding protocols including reporting concerns and maintaining professional boundaries

Epilepsy awareness

Experience of autism and communication strategies

Calm, patient, and empathetic when supporting children with complex needs
