*Doctors Direct* have an exciting opportunity for a *Senior House Officer (SHO)* to work with us at *the borough of* *Islington, Camden and Islington NHS Foundation Trust.*
We are looking for a *Senior House Officer* dedicated to, and passionate about, improving health and wellbeing within the Borough of Islington community.
*Your key responsibilities will be to:*
* Providing day-to-day front-line clinical services
* Conduct thorough assessments of patients with substance misuse issues, including their physical, mental, and social health.
* Take detailed histories regarding substance use, including the type, duration, frequency, and impact on health and lifestyle.
* Identify and diagnose co-occurring mental health conditions such as depression, anxiety, psychosis, or other psychiatric disorders that may be related to or exacerbated by substance misuse.
* Provide medical supervision for patients undergoing detoxification from drugs or alcohol, ensuring safe and effective withdrawal management.
* Monitor patients closely during detoxification, recognizing signs of withdrawal complications and taking appropriate action.
* Regularly review and update treatment plans to reflect patient progress, adjusting medications and interventions as necessary.
* Provide education to patients and their families on the nature of substance misuse, treatment options, and harm reduction strategies.
* Offer advice on lifestyle changes, coping mechanisms, and relapse prevention techniques.
* Help patients understand the importance of compliance with treatment regimens and follow-up appointments
* Refer patients to appropriate community resources, such as rehabilitation centers, counselling services, and social support networks.
* Work closely with social services, housing organizations, and legal professionals to assist patients with complex needs (e.g., homelessness, legal problems) that contribute to their substance misuse..
