Minimum Requirements: - National Diploma in Biomedical Technology or Degree in Medical Laboratory Science or Medical Technical Certificate
- Proven laboratory experience (1-2year), particularly in molecular biology, immunology, or related techniques.
- Experience with human samples handling, ELISA techniques and cell culture (desirable)
- Ability to work according to standard procedure protocols
- Computer Literacy (MS Word, MS Excel, MS Outlook and Internet; Data Management Systems advantageous)
- Knowledge of medical terminology (especially TB/HIV/COVID-19)
- Proactive, with the ability to self-manage
- Excellent organisational and detailing skills
The following will be advantageous: - Good Clinical Practice Certification
- HPCSA registration
- Proficiency in managing biorepositories
- Keen interest in Research (particularly Allergy, Immunology and Dermatology)
Responsibilities include (but not limited to): - Assisting with logistics regarding appropriate collection, transport and storage of specimens
- Ensuring appropriate processing of specimens in the laboratories
- Performing relevant scientific experiments in line with needs of specific research projects.
- Maintaining study specific laboratory working files with all the relevant documentation
- Ensuring good Quality Assurance and Quality Control
- Ordering laboratory supplies, as needed
- Keeping detailed and accurate records of laboratory activities
- Compile monthly reports on diagnostic tests run in the laboratory
Additional Information: - 12-month Fixed Term Contract
- Working hours: 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday
- Position will be based at Groote Schuur Hospital, Observatory
