At Collier Plant Hire I was responsible for the hire fleet of machinery; excavators, dumpers, rollers, telehandlers and other smaller plant. The larger fleet consisted of c30 units, some of them weighing up to 30 Tonnes. I kept an inventory of returned equipment, detailing any defects and arranging for this to be put right before the machine could be made available for re-hire.
I had to ensure that the correct paperwork relating to the hire was completed prior to dispatch, insurance, destination, driver qualification and acceptable routing. I had to ensure that the correct machine went to the right destination at the agreed time, that there was acceptable access and that it could be unloaded safely. I had to ensure that our delivery vehicles returned either empty or with a vehicle for collection and that the shortest, safest route was used.
On the return of a unit, after meticulous cleaning, I would carry out a detailed inspection of the machinery by the use of a specific check list relating to each type and model of unit. Any issues would be raised with the plant manager to agree the best way forward and an outline date for repair along with an estimated timescale.
Each month I prepaired a report for the MD setting out major damage to machinery and deciding whether these were wear and tear or customer abuse. In the latter case I would be obliged to contact the customer to decide how we would deal with their damage deposit.
My role involved being part of a small team of 4 reporting directly to the MD.

A colleague and I were made redundant from a family-owned business in York last year and since then I have been working locally as a warehouse operative in the food industry, doing 2 or 3 days while an employee has been way on long term sick. They have now returned so that I am available for work almost immediately.
You will see that I have held numerous responsible positions throughout my career. They have all required attention to detail and accuracy with both words and figures, particularly when preparing quotations for hire of equipment and offers of financial services. I’m comfortable in a customer facing role and am reasonably computer literate. I believe that I can bring an experienced and good team ethic to the role.
