PRIMARY PURPOSE OF THE JOB:
The Credit Risk Analyst / Data Scientist is one of the individuals contributing to our Consulting and Analytics team working on the development and delivery of reporting, credit risk strategy, predictive models and prescriptive models across the consumer credit life cycle in various industries.
You need to be passionate about data and technology, have a hunger to grow and learn and great collaboration skills.
Working with our advisors and senior team members, you will jointly be responsible for meeting the client’s expectations on projects in relation to results, quality, budgets and timelines.
Typical assignments will involve applying advanced analytical techniques to extract maximum value out of data, constructing data driven strategies, providing insights and presentation of results with key recommendations.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Data processing, manipulation and validation.
- Performance and exclusion analysis.
- Action-effect analysis.
- Feature engineering.
- Development of machine learning and data science models in various industries and use cases.
- Development of predictive models across the credit life cycle and in various industries.
- Development of advanced analytical solutions to solve business problems for our clients.
- Analyse reports and results and perform investigative analytics to solve problems.
- Model validation and testing.
- Implementation and monitoring.
- Credit risk strategy development.
- Investigative analytics.
- Compile professional consulting reports and presentations for delivery to clients.
- Develop close relationships with clients to identify additional areas for development and assistance.
- Work closely with other contributors on joint projects, such as sales, marketing, software and consulting.
KEY REQUIREMENTS:
EDUCATION/QUALIFICATIONS:
- A numerical degree in statistics, operational research, computer science, engineering, mathematics or related field.
EXPERIENCE:
- At least 2 years in consumer credit analytics.
OTHER:
- The position is largely remote but will require some onsite collaboration and travel to client sites in South Africa and possibly abroad.

- Experience as a data scientist
- Ability to multi-task, prioritize with a sense of urgency, and work under pressure to tight deadlines.
- Ability to relay insights in layman’s terms, such that these can be used to inform business decisions.

TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES / SKILLS:
- Analytical software: good working knowledge of Python.
- In-depth understanding of SQL.
- Working knowledge of SAS.
- A working knowledge of data science and machine learning techniques.
- A working knowledge of Predictive Modelling techniques.
- Data processing, validation, and manipulation skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
