The SO performs state-wide power flow monitoring and contingency analysis in real-time to identify emerging issues, develop operating strategies, and execute system adjustments to mitigate reliability risks. The SO, in coordination with the SBA Reliability Coordinator (RC), identifies and implements efficient Reliability Must Run units and generation redispatch as needed to maintain reliability and system stability. The SO coordinates the interface with generating facilities including writing and implementing switching and clearances and monitors Nuclear Plant Interconnection Requirements to ensure reliable off-site power. The SO also monitors and coordinates the interface with neighboring utilities and develops and adjusts hydro schedules.
The SO, in coordination with TCC supervision, provides operational leadership to the floor and ensures a continuous leadership presence on nights and weekends. The SO, in coordination with the SBA RC, leads the Georgia ITS response to system events including Energy Emergency Alerts, load shed, Blackstart, restoration activities, and other system emergencies.
The successful candidates will gain extensive knowledge of the power system and power flow monitoring/contingency analysis tools and techniques. The successful candidates will gain extensive knowledge of NERC requirements related to Transmission Operations and will build strong working relationships throughout Power Delivery, Generation, the Southern Balancing Area, and other cross-functional areas, as well as with the Georgia ITS. The successful candidates will develop a state-wide and regional perspective of transmission operations and gain leadership experience in coordinating reliable operations. The successful candidates will develop excellent teamwork, problem-solving, decision-making, and communication skills working with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders.
