As the Director of AWS Cloud Engineering, you will play a key role in optimizing, securing, and scaling our cloud infrastructure, while developing and managing a high-performing team of cloud engineers and architects. This is a hands-on leadership position, where you will be directly involved in designing and executing cloud strategies from concept to deployment, ensuring alignment with best practices, and driving continuous improvement.
The Director of Cloud Engineering will oversee the optimization of our AWS infrastructure , manage CI/CD pipeline automation, and collaborate closely with our Cloud Security team to ensure our cloud environment is secure and compliant. Key Responsibilities:
- Cloud Infrastructure Management: Lead the management and optimization of AWS infrastructure, leveraging core AWS services such as VPC, EC2, RDS, Lambda, CloudFormation, API Gateway, and CloudWatch.
- Infrastructure Improvement: Assess existing infrastructure, build strategic roadmaps for improvement, and guide teams in executing those plans to ensure continuous alignment with industry best practices.
- DevOps Leadership: Collaborate with Agile development teams to streamline CI/CD processes, enhance deployment speed, reduce failure rates, and drive operational efficiency.
- Cloud Solution Design: Provide thought leadership in designing, implementing, and maintaining both pre-production and production environments to ensure optimal development, deployment, and security practices.
- Vendor & Budget Management: Oversee vendor relationships, budget management, and forecasting for cloud-related expenses, focusing on cost containment and maximizing value from cloud environments and SaaS vendors.
- Team Building & Development: Build and nurture a team of talented, collaborative, and growth-oriented cloud engineers and architects. Foster a culture of lifelong learning, experimentation, and collaboration.
- Customer-Centric Cloud Solutions: Collaborate with both internal teams and external partners to design cloud solutions that enhance customer delivery, improve performance, and meet business objectives.
- Security & Compliance: Ensure the security, scalability, and compliance of cloud services, with a strong emphasis on HITRUST standards, to safeguard sensitive data and ensure regulatory adherence.
- Continuous Improvement: Lead efforts to improve cloud infrastructure, deployment pipelines, and operational efficiency, while maintaining a healthy balance between build/buy/partner decisions.
Qualifications:
- Education: BSc/BA in Computer Science, Information Systems Management, or a related field, or 4 years of equivalent professional experience in lieu of a Degree.
- Experience: At least 8 years of experience in software or systems engineering, with a minimum of 5 years of experience managing AWS infrastructure and cloud engineering teams.
- Leadership Experience: Proven track record in managing and mentoring technical teams, with a focus on performance development and organizational growth.
- Required Skills:
- Hands-on experience with cloud services (particularly AWS) and infrastructure as code (Terraform, AWS CloudFormation, etc.).
- Expertise in automating deployment pipelines using tools such as AWS CodeDeploy, Jenkins, or similar.
- Proficiency in shell scripting (Bash, Python) and cloud automation tools (e.g., Ansible).
- Deep understanding of cloud security best practices and experience with compliance frameworks (HIPAA/HITRUST is a plus).
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
- Experience managing cloud budgets and forecasting cloud-related expenses.
- Certifications: AWS certifications (e.g., AWS Certified DevOps Engineer, AWS Certified Solutions Architect) are a plus but not required.
- Bonus Skills: Multi-cloud experience with Azure and GCP is a plus.
