Our client is looking for an Operations Manager to join their team based in Johannesburg and KZN.
Job Function
Formulating local operations strategies and managing and leading a management team consisting of warehouse managers, processes, systems, facilities, people, and support functions such as Human Resources, Finance and Engineering. Close interaction with engineering and maintenance functions of client, and third-party inbound supply chain team.
Key performance areas
- To lead a team of managers and employees providing warehousing services for maintenance and spare parts in heavy manufacturing industry.
- To support and influence the client’s engineering, maintenance and trade teams to provide spare parts and consumables on time to SLA.
- To support and influence the third party supply chain teams to order and deliver material timeously and to SLA.
- To manage and guide client stakeholders through the organisational transformational changes required to embed new supply chain solutions.
- To identify, shape and pursue opportunities within the client’s supply chain operations to improve cost, service levels and quality for the mutual benefit of the client.
- To regularly interact with client to review key performance indicators and maintenance of the quality management system. (ISO 9001).
- To drive optimal productivity and goal achievement and to determine opportunities for cost reduction and general improvement.
- To establish and implement departmental goals, objectives, and procedures in consultation with company directors and client.
- To manage required Employee Relations initiatives and processes in order to ensure a stable work environment.
- To conduct performance appraisals with managers and to determine training and development needs of managers, including succession planning.
- To maintain a SHEQ programme ensuring all risks are managed and controlled in line with legislation.
Minimum Requirements
- A 4-year degree / NQF level 7. For example, a BSc Engineering or BEng degree. Preferable: Mechanical or Industrial engineering
Skills and experience required
- At least 15 years’ experience in warehouse & supply chain / logistics / engineering / manufacturing / maintenance environment of which 10 years should have been at senior management level.
- Knowledge of Warehousing, Supply Chain, Logistics and Engineering Processes and Practices. The emphasis is on Warehousing & Supply Chain.
- Working knowledge of material handling activities such as receiving, binning, picking, checking (WMS).
- Management of staff – understanding of disciplinary/grievance processes and labour relations in general.
- Team dynamics – knowledge of team dynamics within teams and between individual team members and functional teams.
- Knowledge of maintenance and repair requirements, critical spares, processes and programs in heavy manufacturing (maintenance planning and execution performed by the client, hence, a working knowledge is required to support, enhance and anticipate the requirements of this function).
- Knowledge of the maintenance of SHEQ programmes and principles.
- Administration and Management — Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, human resources, leadership techniques, production methods, and coordination of people and resources.
- Customer Service — Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer service. This includes communication with customer and providing feedback, meeting standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.
- Personnel and Human Resources — Knowledge of principles and procedures for personnel recruitment, selection, training, compensation and benefits, labour relations and negotiation, and personnel information systems.
- Business Accounting — Knowledge of accounting principles and practices and the analysis/ reporting of financial information.
- Public Safety and Security — Knowledge of relevant equipment, policies, procedures, and strategies to promote effective local, state, or national security operations for the protection of people, data, property, and institutions.
- Law and Government — Knowledge of laws, legal codes, court procedures, precedents, government regulations, executive orders, agency rules, and the democratic political process.
- Education and Training — Knowledge of principles and methods for curriculum and training design, teaching and instruction for individuals and groups, and the measurement of training effects
- Production and Processing — Knowledge of production processes, quality control, cost containment, and other techniques for maximizing operational efficiency
- Knowledge and experience in Health Safety Environment and Quality management. (ISO 9001).
