Introduction
Maximise the effectiveness and efficiency of the CEO's office. Provide strategic guidance, market analysis and macroeconomic views to the CEO, while coordinating, and managing the office of the CEO.Serve as a trusted advisor and help ensure that the CEO’s and EXCO vision and goals are communicated effectively and implemented.Maintain and build key internal and external stakeholder relationships. Identify strategic engage opportunities for the CEO to drive Group Strategy.Responsible for assisting the CEO and EXCO with major decisions and leading business administration and strategic projects from the Office of the CEO.
- Manage certain of the JSE's medium-term and long-term strategic planning initiatives, guide and direct divisions in their strategic projects to ensure alignment with CEO's office
- Liaise with divisional Directors and foster collaboration and partnership on joint initiatives.
- Lead and participate in strategic projects and keep the CEO up to date on the progress.
- Assist the CEO in executing the JSE's strategy and obtaining a 360-degree view of financial markets, taking all stakeholder needs into consideration.
- Lead the CEO’s special projects and programmes in partnership with divisional Directors.
- A key input into strategies and policies in collaboration with CEO and EXCO.
- Successfully coordinate and complete critical projects and initiatives.
- Improved efficiency of project processes and workflows.
- Guide CEO and EXCO during difficult periods and times of uncertainty.
- Develop and manage strategic communications from the office of the CEO • Anticipate and manage critical communication and consider the reputational impact of sensitive and key narratives – both inside and outside of the organisation.
- Guide CEO and Directors on critical messaging.
- Manage stakeholder communication from the CEO's office – ensure that narrative and messaging reflect the correct tone, content and messages are on point. Ensure that the appropriate stakeholders are targeted (e.g., press, regulators, members)
- Draft communication, speeches and presentations for the CEO.
- Manage experts to develop briefing notes, and coordinate external engagements as needed.
- Quality control of all documentation and collateral submitted to the CEO for approval.
- Oversee the editing and review of the wording of SEN's submissions and announcements to ensure communication aligns with the CEO narrative. Guide the investor relations team to ensure communication reflects the CEO and JSE’s strategic intent.
- Anticipate shareholder response to announcements (E.g., year-end results) and provide guidance and insight into messaging, narrative, and tactical approach to positioning of results.
- Anticipate and prepare for media engagement on critical and potentially reputationally sensitive matters.
- Provide strategic guidance and oversight to the communications and marketing team on key narratives that align with the CEO.
- Produce Board-level documentation and analysis as required, working closely with the Governance and Assurance division.
- Communication that displays discernment and sound judgment in critical matters.
- Prepare presentations and other materials for board meetings, investor conferences, and employee town halls.
- Verbally brief or ensure the CEO receives documentation and briefing notes.
- Internal and external queries directed to the CEO's Office are responded to timeously.
- Quality documents and briefing notes were compiled.
- Manage and direct the CEO’s engagements with key external stakeholders
- Identify and partner with external stakeholders on mutually beneficial opportunities and assist in positioning SA as an attractive investment destination. E.g., Leading and driving Memoranda of Understanding (MOU) with peer exchanges, involving negotiation of MOU terms with exchange executives and management of cross-divisional engagement on components of the MOU.
- Liaise with relevant role players in the regulatory space such as SARB, FSCA and the Prudential Authority.
- Provide the CEO with feedback from various workstreams being led throughout the business
- Engage directly with senior, key clients, shareholders, and associations such as the World Federation of Exchanges, the United Nations and the World Economic Forum to set up and plan projects of national importance.
- Engage with analysts and economists across various institutions.
- Proactively identify potential risks and partner with the CEO and Exco to mitigate them.
- Anticipate and identify key opportunities to partner with government, regulators or stakeholders on issues of national importance (EG: Managed and coordinated the Minister of Electricity’s investment summit at the JSE) • Coordinate and follow up on requests from the CEO to institutions.
- Identify opportunities for the CEO to engage peers and industry leaders through conferences and roadshows.
- Decision-making and problem-solving.
- Develop well-rounded overviews of the macroeconomic environment.
- Build and maintain relationships with key external stakeholders e.g. Government (President’s office, Minister's office, Governor’s office), Exchanges and Regulators.
- Manage the office of the CEO
- Oversee the CEO's PA in managing operational plans for the Office.
- Manage and resolve issues raised by employees, clients and other stakeholders and follow up to ensure successful resolution and keep the CEO up to date on the progress made etc.
- Interact with stakeholders on behalf of the CEO in forums where decision-making is required. • Quality control of the work delivered by the PA.
- Maximise the CEO's time by ensuring appointments are scheduled and material prepared is of excellent standard.
- Conduct research and provide information to assist in decision-making
- Identify research required for the execution of the JSE strategy and CEO office.
- Research key topics relevant to the CEO’s office.
- Manage and direct economists and market commentators to provide executives with up to date economic forecasts and political analysis.
- Consider the evolving needs of various market participants, particularly in the context of sustainability and changing technology.
- Quality of research and analysis provided to support key decisions.
- Provide research on industry best practice for investor relations.
- Research and recommend new and revised policies and strategies.
- Research used for internal strategy and external engagements.
- Ad hoc responsibilities
- Assist the CEO with matters emanating from her portfolio and official matters emanating from other activities.
- Quick response time for handling ad hoc tasks.
• Bachelor’s degree in Commerce or Business Management or related field
• Master’s degree in sustainable development or a related field would be advantageous
• 7 years’ experience having worked in strategic or senior management role
• Proven experience organising and directing multiple teams and departments
• Experience planning and leading strategic initiatives and change management experience
