Part-time Lecturer/Junior Lecturer: Mathematics Literacy (Contract ending 31 December 2025), Dept. of SP & FET Teaching, Faculty of Education - (7627)
Job Purpose: The purpose of this vacancy is to appoint a part-time lecturer to teach Mathematics Literacy in the Department of Senior and FET phase at Wellington Campus (not exceeding 24 hours per month at a rate of R290 per hour). Please note that the position is based at the Wellington Campus, where tuition is mainly in Afrikaans. Candidates must be able to teach in Afrikaans.
Job Knowledge, Skills and Experience:
- A relevant Master’s degree OR Honors degree for Junior Lecturer (Preference will be given to candidates with a Master’s degree).
- A Bachelor’s degree with Mathematics Literacy or Mathematics as a major.
- A relevant teaching qualification.
- At least five (5) years experience in teaching Mathematics/Mathematical Literacy at secondary level or two (2) years teaching the subject at the tertiary level.
- Knowledge of how to write in academic language and how to do research is of utter importance.
- Knowledge, understanding and experience in preparing and evaluating meaningful teaching experiences for Senior and FET phase students.
- Fluency in Afrikaans and English – BEd tuition on the Wellington Campus is in Afrikaans.
Key Performance Areas / Principal Accountabilities:
- Teaching Mathematical Literacy in Education in the Senior and FET phase from first to fourth-year level.
- Academic administration.
- Learning materials design, development and preparation, as there is no prescribed textbook yet.
- Assessment, marking and uploading of student marks.
- Quality assurance.
- Coaching and mentoring students.
- Perform other functions as may be assigned by the Head of Department.
- Excellent teaching skills.
- Excellent communication in Afrikaans and English.
- Sound administrative and technical skills.
- Academic management skills.
- Planning and organisation skills.
- Mentoring and support for students.
- Knowledge of education (and language) policies nationally (including CAPS).
- Ability to work in a team.
- Computer Skills.
