Peripatetic Learning Support Therapist/Teacher
Uplands is an Anglican, innovative, co-educational, independent school located on an extensive estate in White River, close to the Kruger National Park. We are committed to providing quality education to day- (Grade 0000 – Grade 12) and boarding pupils (Grade 4 – Grade 12).
Uplands is a member of the Independent Schools Association of Southern Africa (ISASA) and the Anglican Board of Education of South Africa (ABESA) and offers examinations set by the Independent Examination Board (IEB).
Uplands College seeks to appoint a peripatetic learning support therapist/teacher to provide additional academic support and/or remedial therapy for individual pupils.
The successful applicant will:
- Possess a suitable professional qualification in remedial therapy, occupational therapy, NILD educational therapy, learning support teaching or similar.
- Have experience working with individual pupils and small groups at high school level across Grades 8-12, with particular focus on working with pupils experiencing barriers to learning or requiring additional academic support.
- Demonstrate excellent knowledge and understanding of foundational skills required for learning, with particular reference to executive functioning skills.
- Possess the ability to plan creative and engaging lessons, supporting pupils with tools and strategies to promote cognitive development and learning.
- Be innovative, embrace technology, display a creative teaching style, and understand different learning needs and be able to adapt accordingly.
- Have a high EQ and be genuinely passionate to make a difference in pupils’ lives.
- Be prepared to adhere to Uplands policies and collaborate with relevant staff members.
- Have sound administrative ability and be able to manage data, meet deadlines, and communicate timeously and professionally with staff, students and parents.
- Have a proven record of commitment and professionalism towards education.
- Be willing to work flexible hours within the mornings and afternoons.
Conditions of agreement:
- Remedial lessons will be conducted in line with the Uplands Code of Conduct and Safeguarding Policy.
- Referrals and lesson arrangements will be made in collaboration with the Academic Support Department.
- Payment will be made privately between therapist/teacher and parent.
- The therapist/teacher must be registered to operate as an independent service provider and be willing to collaborate with the Academic Support Department to provide planning and feedback regarding pupil progress.
Commencement date: 15 January 2025 or as soon as possible thereafter
