An L2 Network Engineer is responsible for providing second-level support for network issues, troubleshooting complex network problems, and maintaining network infrastructure. Here are some key responsibilities and qualifications for this role:
Responsibilities:
- Handle escalated network issues that cannot be resolved by L1 engineers.
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex problems involving LAN, WAN, and WLAN technologies.
- Diagnose issues with routers, switches, firewalls, and other network devices.
- Perform advanced network configurations, including routing and switching protocols.
- Configure and maintain VPNs and load balancers to ensure security and optimal performance.
- Monitor network performance using network management tools to ensure minimal downtime and identify potential issues.
- Conduct regular checks and maintenance of network devices to ensure reliability.
- Lead the investigation and resolution of major network incidents, ensuring proper root cause analysis and corrective actions.
- Document incident reports and maintain accurate records of all network-related incidents and actions taken.
- Optimize network performance by analyzing traffic patterns, bandwidth usage, and device configurations.
- Collaborate with other IT teams, including security, server, and cloud teams, to maintain a cohesive IT infrastructure.
- Work closely with vendors to resolve hardware or software issues and assist with network upgrades and installations.
- Ensure network compliance with security policies, performing regular audits, and updating firewall rules and configurations.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to L1 engineers and assist them in solving network-related issues.
Qualifications:
- 8 years in network engineering or administration, with exposure to complex troubleshooting and network management.
- Hands-on experience with routers and switches from vendors such as Cisco, Juniper, and other vendor devices.
- Knowledge of WLAN technologies and wireless network management.
- Familiarity with SD-WAN technologies.
