Prof. Kaan Boztug is the newly recruited Clinical Director of the Department of Pediatric Immunology and Rheumatology at the University Hospital of Bonn and Principal Investigator of an ERC Consolidator grant (iDysChart), integrating basic research into mechanisms of immune dysregulation and clinical translation. The Boztug lab has a focus on deciphering the molecular origin of inborn errors of immunity and is integrated within the Excellence Cluster

The Boztug lab is looking for two experienced and motivated Technical Assistants (MTA). In this key role, you will support our ongoing scientific research projects, particularly third-party funded initiatives, and work closely with the Director on both strategic and operational levels.
- Managing organizational tasks in the laboratory: orders, preparation of reagents, sample processing, inventory lists, and others
- Cell Culture: Isolation and culturing of peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) and nucleic acid isolation from human samples; maintenance of primary cell cultures and cell lines; transfection/transduction of both cell lines and primary cells, and the generation and establishment of genetically modified cell lines by CRISPR/Cas9-gene editing
- Genetics/Genomics: PCR (incl. primer design), conventional (Sanger) sequencing, next generation sequencing-based methods (e.g. exome sequencing, genome sequencing, ATAC-Seq, RNAseq)
- Interpretation, reporting and documentation of genetic findings to external collaborators and into a local database
- Contributing to research projects by introducing and optimizing new relevant experimental techniques and assisting to perform experiments
- Providing support and guidance to new personnel by introducing them to established laboratory routines and regulations
- Completed training as MTA (m/f/d) or equivalent qualification
- Practical experience in genetics and molecular biology (e.g. PCR, DNA/RNA extraction, recombinant protein purification)
- Expertise in common zebrafish techniques is an asset
- Excellent oral and verbal communication skills in English and German
- Ability to work both independently and in collaboration with researchers and other technical assistants, self-motivation, learn quickly, and pay attention to detail
