Overview
This is a fantastic opportunity for an ambitious accountant to take the reigns and manage the entire financial function of a growing business that is primarily DTC and employs 8 people. You will thrive on getting to know and understand the full workings of the business and be a central team member in developing robust systems and accurate reporting and helping shape the future of the business.
Key Functions of the role
- Manage accounts payable and receivable, processing invoices, payments and monitoring outstanding balances.
- Perform financial reconciliations for accounts, bank statements, and payment gateway transactions, to ensure accuracy and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner.
- Conduct month-end and year-end closings, ensuring that all financial transactions are accurately recorded and reported. Prepare necessary documentation and reports for internal and external audits.
- Prepare month end accruals and prepayments
- Prepare and maintain accurate monthly management accounts including Profit & Loss (P&L) statements and Balance Sheet, ensuring they reflect an accurate position of the business. Assist with quarterly investor overview
- Analyze financial performance by assessing key metrics such as revenue, costs, and profitability, and provide detailed reports to support data-driven decision-making.
- Develop and manage budgets and forecasts for cash flow planning, ensuring alignment with business goals and providing periodic variance analysis.
- Preparing the quarterly VAT return and related HMRC activity
- Assist with payroll processing and employee expense reports, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and adherence to tax regulations.
- Manage petty cash
- Maintain the asset register
- Maintain the HR system (Bright HR). Logging contracts, holiday entitlement, pension, health contributions
- Some office management including utilities, insurance, ordering equipment and other ad hoc activity
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is required.
- Experience: 3-5 years of accounting experience, within a retail or brand environment.
- Certification: CPA, AAT, ACCA or relevant certification preferred.
- Skills:
- In-depth knowledge of accounting practices, including P&L management, cost control, budgeting, and financial analysis.
- Proficiency in the following software systems is a big advantage (Xero, A2X, Shopify, Qoblex, DEXT ) and Excel for financial modeling and analysis.
- Good with understanding how data integrations are managed between systems and a keen eye for identifying and issues or ways to improve
- Strong analytical and numerical skills with a keen attention to detail and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
- Excellent organizational and time-management abilities to manage multiple financial tasks and meet deadlines.
- Effective communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with all members of the team.
